2010 Champions - The Hillbenders
|
Silver Dollar City's 4th Annual Single Microphone Championship was held in the Opera House Theater May 22 & 23, 2010, during the Bluegrass & BBQ Festival. This contest highlights talented bluegrass bands that perform using the single microphone style.
This distinctive style was made popular in the 1920s, 30s and 40s by bluegrass bands whose members would gather around a single microphone and balance their sound by moving toward or away from it. This technique has been revived by many of today's top bluegrass bands.

The 2010 competition was hosted by Terry Herd, host of Into the Blue, America's largest and most listened to syndicated bluegrass radio program. Herd also created the bluegrass channel for Sirius Satellite Radio.
Cash prizes were awarded to the top three groups. First prize also included a professional photograph of the band to be published in a full page advertisement in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine announcing the band's victory. The top three bands will be offered a future booking at Silver Dollar City.
